I've been trying some new things lately, so I thought it might be good to check in with everyone and see how they're working. I'll put a poll up on the side menu, but feel free to comment here as well if you have more to say.
What I'd like to know is:
1. How do you feel about the "How They Do It" columns?
I've gone through all my guest posts, and before I start collecting more for the rest of the year, I wanted to see if everyone found them helpful or not. Do you want to see more? Do you have any particular topics or even writers you'd like to hear about? (I can't promise I can get those writers to blog, but I can try and it never hurts to ask).
2. How do you feel about the "Real Life Diagnostics" columns?
These come in when they come in, but do you find them helpful? I know everyone likes to see examples, and I like using them to help illustrate a topic.
3. Is there a topic you'd like to see more of on a weekly basis, like the Re-Write Wednesday column?
I know my last poll had plotting at the top of the list of things to hear more about, though to be honest, I'm not sure I can do plot every week. But I'm willing to try if folks want it. I'll be starting a new book in a few months, so I'll be able to pay attention to what I do and hopefully be able to offer some good tips like I've done with revision. Maybe widen the topic a little and say "story development?" Probably a bit more to work with there.
That about does it. As always, feel free to ask any questions you want here about things on your mind or topics you'd like to see posts on. Or any suggestions you might have on how to make the blog more helpful or useful.
I've enjoyed your blog, and recommended it to many of my writer friends. I like the "how they do it" and "real life diagnostics" columns.
ReplyDeleteFor the rest, my bet is that I'll get the most from your blog if you continue to write about whatever topic you have the most energy for at the moment.
I love both "how they do it" and "real life diagnostics." I think it would be interesting to see how other people tackle starting rewrites (I know for me at least deciding how to start and then starting to rewrite something that I loved writing the first time is a daunting task) or just revisions in general.

I look forward to all your posts, and I find the How They Do It add to the value of your blog. You do a good job, yourself, of trying to address different types of writers/thinkers in your own articles, and those ones provide that actual different perspective.

I have enjoyed re-write Wednesdays, but that's probably because I am currently re-writing my WIP. I like the idea of story development, though. Thanks for all your hard work on this blog.

ReplyDeleteI like what you're doing too. More on character development would be helpful too. I haven't enjoyed the guest posts as much as your posts though some have been good. Perhaps you want to combine your 2 blogs & post news occasionally here & stop using that one. It might save you work and get the word out more.

ReplyDeleteNatalie, I actually have turned the Healing Wars blog into a news only one and rarely post there anymore. That helped a lot on freeing up some of my time. I was hesitant about making this my only blog, because if you're not into writing, there's no reason to come here. I was worried that could be problematic with a lot of my readers (especially the younger ones). Things will ease up soon, though, once Shifter 3 is done. I won't be on deadline anymore :) Of course, I won't be under contract anymore either, hmmm... trade off.
