The Browse Inside feature at HarperCollins is up, and I know some of you (yes, you, Glen) have asked for a sneak peek. I'm happy to finally be able to offer one. Sorry about the wait.
A Sneak Peek of The Shifter
At some point I'll also have a peek up on the website, but I'm not sure when that will happen. Hopefully within the next week or two.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone!
Hey, I was wondering when we'd finally get to see an excerpt. I didn't realize it was in first-person - definitely something that would make me interested. (We need more first person fantasy!)
ReplyDeleteI love it!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know it was in first person either. LOVE this opening!
ReplyDeleteThanks! :) This was actually a bit of an experiment in the beginning. I'd never really written much in first person before, but Nya just refused to be written as anything else. Found out I love this POV. I doubt I'll go back to third much anymore.
ReplyDeleteI also have a fondness for the first person POV, although most of my ideas lend themselves better to third person. It will be interesting to see how people take to it - first person seems to be much more common in a lot of 'literary' YA than in fantasy, although I get the impression that's starting to change.
ReplyDeleteEverything goes in cycles, and when people get tired of it, third will be back in style. For a long time, omniscient was the king POV, but you rarely see it anymore. First person tends to feel very in the moment, which is a vital part of YA.
ReplyDeleteOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!!!! Janice!! I just got back from a 1 week holiday (with no internet access) and I was browsing through your blog just now, trying to catch up. And I stumbled on this post! YOU CANNOT IMAGINE HOW EXCITED I AM!
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed it, which is why I'm hoping there's going to be more sneak peaks. Right? More, please?
ReplyDeleteThanks! You'll get a little more. The plan was to post the first scene on the website, and I'm about to do some overhauling on that this week-ish. The sneak peek you saw was about half the opening scene. They cut it just when it starts to get interesting!
