Another Loss, Another Break

It breaks my heart that I wrote a post just like this almost exactly two years ago.

Yesterday, my husband and I said goodbye to our youngest cat, Puck. He was diagnosed with cancer in mid-March, and while we discovered it early enough to cherish our last few months with him, there was nothing else we could do.

He was a little trooper, and stayed playful, loving, and sweet as ever (even chased, caught, and ate, lizards on the patio right up to the end) but yesterday morning we knew things had tipped and his quality of life was about to fade rapidly. We wanted to spare him that, so it was time to let him go.

Puck was the most amazing cat in the world. A gentle giant at almost 19 pounds, he was always there to snuggle and play and throw his stuffed squirrel toy around like a Frisbee. He was a special, special guy and I've never known a cat like him. I've had great cats all my life, but he really was a step above.

We'll miss him terribly, and feel privileged to have known him and to have had him in our lives. He was deeply loved, and will be deeply missed.

My guest authors and contributors will continue, but I'll be taking a break for a little while. I thank you all for understanding.

  5. It's surprisingly hard to get over the loss of a fuzzy family member, especially the extra-special ones like your big guy Puck. You have my heartfelt sympathy, and the wish that, while you grieve, you also smile and even laugh over those very endearing antics and his affectionate nature.

  6. I'm so very sorry for your loss and the heartbreak you are suffering. Pets are family members and we love them dearly. I've found through the years that after a period of grieving, my heart opens up for a new family member. The love we have for them expands our hearts, and that is one of the most precious gifts they leave us.

  8. Oh my toes. I am so sorry to hear about Mr. Puck. My elderly torbie nurse cat, Lilith, will meet him on The Other Side.

Purrs for the empties left in your heart. It may be the most difficult decision you will make, but at times it is the only one to make.

  13. I am sorry for your loss. I know how you feel. I still grieve my lost 2 boy cats, even though I have more now and it's been a couple years. In fact 2 are golden tigers like our Puck. cosmic hugs. (I saw my last boy walk up the Rainbow Bridge, that was special to me.) Even though I can hear from spirits of people, cats, dogs, etc, I still miss them when they are not physical.) Big cosmic hug.
