Writing Prompt: The Story Starter: I Totally Got That Wrong

By Janice Hardy, @Janice_Hardy

This week’s prompt is a story starter, so take the element provided and turn it into a story of any length you choose. If you’re stuck on size, I suggest aiming for 1000-2000 words.

Write a story in which someone gets something completely wrong.

Write whatever this triggers, and use this however you wish.

  1. "Oh my goodness Matthew yes!" Sarah had squealed yanking the ring from my outstretched hand. The problem was I was drunk when I proposed and now I regret those rum shots.

  2. "I totally got that wrong," Wilson said, taking a drag on the cigarette the detective gave him. "Now my brother's dead. I thought we could sell the junk and turn over the cash. We'd be heroes."

"Heroes? I don't think so. You've always been a major screw-up. But I have good news for you. This is your chance to make up for all of it."

    "Yeah, how?"

"Tell us who shot your brother. That way you make this right and get revenge for your bro."

Wilson pulled at his chin. If he told them, they would arrest EL Diablo, which would piss off half of South LA. Then eight or ten gang members wearing bandanas would grab Wilson and cut his head off. Maybe, he should...
