Getting Back to Normal

For the last month, I've had some eye issues that have made it difficult for me to be on the computer, and I had to stay off the computer for a while. (Did you know there's a whole world out there that doesn't involve a monitor? I had no idea!) Some of you might have noticed I've been a little absent in the comments lately, and longtime readers might have also noticed I've been pulling oldies but goodies from the archives. That was about all I could manage and I didn't want to put the blog on hiatus for all that time.

The eyes are getting back to normal now, and I've been able to work the last few days (yay!). I still need to take frequent breaks to rest my eyes, but I'm on the road to recovery. So my blogging schedule will resume this week, with new posts and me being able to keep up with comments and join in the conversations. I think I'll take another week off before I get back to Twitter though. That's more eye intensive and I don't want to push it. Best news, I can start writing again! Even that had to wait.

I've also taken a little time to update the online resources tab. I've broken out the writing blogs into their own category now, and added some new links. I'll be adding more book review sites as well. This is a good opportunity to let you guys know if you have any links you'd like me to add (yours or sites you love and think others would enjoy) just let me know. Also, please let me know if I missed someone and they're in the wrong category.

It's good to be back.

  1. Nice to have you back! :D I hope things continue to improve with your vision, too ;) Can't wait to see what you have in store for us this week (^_^)

    Sincerely,

  2. I'm glad to hear you're recovering. I can't imagine how frustrating it's been for you, not being able to write.

Any chance of putting my blog up on your Online Resources? :-)

  4. Welcome back!

I've got a new website that I'm gearing to be more general interest than the one you currently link to. I already link to your blog on it. It's www.labyrinthrat/com if you want to check it out and/or update your link. :) I'll only rarely be updating the joeicarus.blogspot.com site anymore.

(I guess my next order of business is figuring out if I want to keep commenting on blogspot using my google account, or start using Open ID.)

  7. Definitely take time for your health. I've had some issues myself the past few months, and it really puts to the forefront what's important in one's life.

Plus, as you say, the world beyond the computer is quite remarkable. The resolution is incredible, even right up close, and it's got this cool 3D effect, too. :-)

  8. Welcome back. And thanks a bunch for including me in your list of 'Writing Blogs'--right next to Konrath! :-)

But do take care of yourself: #1 priority. As Maine C above says, reality is pretty cool too. We're not going to forget you while you're taking care of the real stuff.

  9. Hate to sound like your mother but do not risk those beautiful baby blues for anything - even your fantastic blog. Take it easy. There's a whole other world out there. Liz

  11. I hope your eyes continue to get better! Take care of them. We writers definitely need our eyeballs. Best of healing and careful writing. :)

  12. Sorry you haven't been feeling well...hope your eyes are doing better.

My favorite book review site (http://www.bookshoptalk.com/) isn't on your list. They're positive-only, and they happily accept outside reviews...I sent them one for The Shifter, but I don't know when it'll post on their schedule.

I also have a blog, but I feel like I've just recently figured out what to do with it, so it doesn't have a large library to search (so if you'd like not to include it right now, I won't be offended at all). Mostly I'm now reviewing/matching up a book and a board game -- i.e., "If you liked reading Warbreaker, you'll probably like playing 7 Wonders," and vice-versa. Most of the people I know who play board games also read a lot, and this wasn't something I'd seen someone do before. (And sometimes I get to post publication news -- I made my first pro-paying short story sale this week...and I'm pretty excited).

Sorry, that felt rambling. I've had a hard time figuring out what to blog about. I used to just blog about writing, but I felt like every week I should just say "Hey, go read Janice's blog, because it's amazing." I still post on writing once a month, but I enjoy doing the match-ups a lot.

Anyway, thanks again for this amazing site. It really is a treasure trove of resources.

  13. That's an insanely cool concept, MKH! I'm gonna swing by and check it out as soon as I'm not on a cell phone! ;)

  14. @Joe -- Thanks! I only have one up (moving last week = technical difficulties), but I have posts ready for the next few months, so they should be regular.

  15. Thanks all! It's been a rough month. It's had it upsides (like I'm getting out and about more) but I'd have preferred a less painful nudge to get out of the house, hehe.

I'll get those links added to the site.

  18. I had eye surgery a few months ago too, and it was torture no being able to write! Your blog has been amazing btw :) Glad we're both okay now! :D
