Writing Prompt: The Photo Prompt: And the Band Played On

By Janice Hardy, @Janice_Hardy

This week’s prompt is a photo prompt. Write whatever comes to mind, be it a description, a story, or even a poem.

With all the holidays this weekend (both in the US and for our friends to the North), let's try something a little festive this week.

Write something inspired by this photo.

  1. Listen to the thunderous beat of the drumstick as it lay heavily on the taught head of the drum. Its perfect cadence driving men and women forward, left . . . right . . . left . . . A beat that strikes at our hearts.

We stand attentively in honor of the men and women who parade before us. Men and women, our sons, our daughters, brothers and sisters, grandsons and granddaughters, prepared to lay down their lives for the freedom that allows us to stand attentively in honor of them.

We salute the flag as it passes by, remembering the brave souls who did lay down their lives for our freedom. Who stood as tall as we do today to declare the unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Listen to the thunderous beat of our hearts as we salute the brave men and women of our arm forces. GOD BLESS AMERICA.
