I also like to consider my antagonist's path to the Moral Event Horizon. What unthinkable thing will they do? And how do I get them to a point where they're willing to do it?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04009663441628575534noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3901370917824739259.post-72287896605159214732016-03-24T06:05:45.867-04:002016-03-24T06:05:45.867-04:00Thanks for saying so! It's such a universally known world, though, that it often acts as the set of characters and examples my students are most likely to know.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04009663441628575534noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3901370917824739259.post-794662591561686322016-03-22T14:45:36.693-04:002016-03-22T14:45:36.693-04:00Bad guys are a lot more interesting. And if it's an organization (Overarching?) you can keep popping off as many as you want! Revealing which sticks are larger or sharper in a story is great fun.

As an editor, I rarely find a manuscript sans your 3-fold method; however, I do find many authors who create conflicts and antagonists who seem capable of having equally devastating effect on the MC. I like to see conflicts that are normally only irritants become stacked until they take on more power -- or large conflicts tear apart our world and we find solace in the 'normalcy' of those smaller irritants.

I like to see the antagonists become mirrors to the MC's level of paranoia or pain or fear.

Yep -- bad guys are really fun to play with...

Thanks again for sharing!
