Road Trip: The Secrets of Point of View

I'm guest posting over at Jami Gold's blog today, sharing some POV tips and showing how POV can solve so many common writing problems. Even if you're solid on POV, this post has what just might be my favorite Bob and the Zombies examples yet. A little snippet into Jane's life in the apocalypse this time.

Thanks for all the amazing questions in the open call. There are some really good ones there, and I'll start answering those next week.

  2. Thanks Marti! I had so much fun with these I didn't want to stop. I've GOT to write this book one day. I'm getting so invested in the gang's story.

  3. ...yeah, but does she make it to the van??

I don't even like zombies, but I love these posts!

  4. Rachel, I don't know! That's why it was hard to stop writing. I figure she must, but nothing ever goes smoothly in the zombie apocalypse.

  5. Maybe she landed, but sprained her ankle and had to hobble past zombies, but she found a working motorcycle! Quick getaway, but murder on her ankle, so it's still not an easy solution...
Please can we have this story??

  6. I like that! And the meds must be put at risk somehow. Maybe I should serialize this? That could be fun. (inner self smacks me for adding one more thing on my already overflowing to-do list)

  7. Thanks again for the fantastic guest post, Janice! And sorry--but you would have an audience for those stories. :)

    Thanks, Janice. :-)

    1. Most welcome! It's such a great POV, and if ever someone ultimately decides to do a farther narrative distance, I think understanding how deep POV works helps with the overall writing.

  10. I wish someone had explained this to me years ago as clearly as you have in this excellent post. I've had to bookmark it so I can absorb it into my brain. Thanks, Janice.

    1. Happy to help! It's one of those things that can take a while to click, but when it finally does, so much else about writing falls into place.
