For those who don't know, RWA is Romance Writers of America and their big annual writer's conference is this week. (Thursday-Saturday) I'm excited because it's in Atlanta this year, which is only 45 minutes away from me. (I love how this con is in a different city every year) This will be my third RWA con and I've had a blast at every one of them. And learned a ton. The workshop tracks are always amazing and cover a wide variety of topics and skill levels, from newbies to pros.
I'm looking forward to seeing friends I haven't seen in a while, as well as some face time with my lovely agent, Kristin. It'll be a nice mix of fun, friends, and business.
Is anyone here going? I love meeting blog readers, so if you see me (and honestly, with the purple streaks in my hair I'm kinda hard to miss) please come over say hello. Half the fun of these events is chatting with folks I've only talked to online before.
Have fun! I won't be able to go (again) but hopefully someday... They need to come to Cleveland!
ReplyDeleteAw, darn, It would be so cool to meet you face to face. I think there's one in New York in the next few years, but that's as close as it gets for a while.
ReplyDeleteI'd host a conference on my boat, but that might limit numbers a little bit... ;)
ReplyDeleteI'll be there, first time. I'm already down here with a friend in Canton area. I've read your blog for a few years now :)
ReplyDeleteI need to get rich so I can go to all these fantastic writers' conventions. :-(
ReplyDeleteAmy, I'd totally go if you did, lol.
ReplyDeleteStephsco, cool! I hope we run into each other. Totally say hello if you see me.
Paul, I know how you feel. If RWA wasn't local I'd have skipped it this year. Almost did anyway. I can only imagine how rough it would be to be so far away from everything. You guys need more great cons out there.
We really do. We have Octocon in October, which is our SFF convention.
ReplyDeleteAnd next year Ireland is hosting Eurocon, the European SFF convention, under the name Shamrokon.
I'm going to be a panelist at both.
That's great. Sounds like good cons for you. Will the second book be out by then?
ReplyDeleteOctoton is happening the weekend after Silent Oath is released, but the book launch won't be until the following weekend. Either way, I can promote Silent Oath there.
ReplyDeleteAs for Shamrokon next year, that's in late August, and I don't think the final book in the trilogy will be out by then. I should still be able to get some publicity, though.
Sounds good. You can get folks hooked on the first two so when the third comes out they're be ready for it :) It's harder to sell later books in a series to new readers anyway.
ReplyDeleteExactly. I'll be promoting both books at the same time.
ReplyDeleteWe also have Gaelcon, the largest Irish gaming convention, at the end of October, so I'm going to see if any of the traders going to it will take copies of the books to sell.
Ooo sound like fun. I hope it works out :) Every gamer I know is also a big reader.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
