What kind of writing similes do you use? Is there a process that helps you put the writing pieces together?
In college I majored in History and Interior Design (funny combo I know). I should have majored in Lit because those are the classes I took for fun. But I don't think my Interior Design knowledge is wasted, because I believe creating an amazing story and creating an amazing room are the same. How Writing is like Interior Design
For the sake of argument I believe this metaphor applies to fiction - poetry, non-fiction, and memoirs are different beasts.

What a great analogy! Very nice post. Thanks for the link.
Most welcome. :)
A metaphor I find useful useful is systems thinking. That's a very technical word for big picture thinking. In terms of a novel, the big picture is the story itself. I find it a useful comparison for a story because it's a system itself. Everything in the story is connected to something else and shares relationships with different elements that are maybe not obviously seen on the surface.
Linda: I like that!
